Gelica is a friendly soft serif font with the rounded design of an old-school series but has practical usage. Dave Rowland designed this font between 2017 and 2020. Its design is based on the Cooper font, but the more unusual Goudy Heavyface and Ludlow Black probably had a greater impact, mostly due to the concave serifs. Gelica has a rather cheerful and unobtrusive look, which makes it suitable for use in a number of design projects without being too cute.
With the complete set of weights and italics to complement any project, the Gelica typeface is highly useful. It has some of the advanced OpenType features and different kinds of figure styles to make the font more convenient to use. It is also quite legible at smaller sizes for larger stretches of text, which makes it a good subsidiary font for more flamboyant text fonts.
Eclectotype launched it before the market became saturated with retro-style soft serifs. If it had been done in a shorter time, it could have set a precedent rather than followed other works. Nevertheless, Gelica is a worthy and rather special member of your typographic family. Thus, the design objective was to develop a typeface that would feel welcoming but, at the same time, very practicable.
